If you're old school or grew up in the church, you might remember singing songs about the blood of Jesus. Some of the classics are O The Blood of Jesus, There Is Power In The Blood, The Blood Shall Never Lose Its Power. If you are unfamiliar with these songs I encourage you to look them up because we would be singing a lot about the power of the blood of Jesus. We didn't just sing about it sometimesprayerYou would hear people "asking for blood" on behalf of someone they were praying for. If I remember, I have to ask what we were doing back then, because you don't hear that very often anymore. What does it mean to pray through the blood of Jesus or even ask for the blood? I think it's time to revisit the blood of Jesus and rediscover the true power that is in the blood.
What is the blood of Jesus and what does it mean for Christians?
When you think about what the blood of Jesus means to Christians in one word, it means everything. InHebrews 9:22We are reminded that without the shedding of blood there is no forgiveness of sins. Unless Jesus died on the cross and shed His blood for our sins, then we have no hope of forgiveness. What this means is that this blood that Jesus shed has power above all else to wash away sins, and that should mean everything to a Christian.
"In fact, the law requires that almost everything be cleansed with blood, and without bloodshed there is no forgiveness.." -Hebrews 9:22
The importance of praying the blood of Jesus
If you understand the blood, you will see that there are four things that the blood does or provides for us as Christians. Because of the miracle of the blood of Jesus, I thought it would be nice to make the point and pair it with a song. Hopefully it will refresh your memory for some of you "seniors" like me.
1. Blood purifies
“But if we walk in the light as he is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of his Son Jesus cleanses us from all sin.."-1 Juan 1:7
It's a bit strange to think of blood as a purifier. On most things, blood is the most difficult stain to remove. Even at crime scenes, when people are trying to clean the blood, they can use a product like Luminol, which will make all traces of blood visible. Blood is difficult to wash away and that is good for you and me because the influence and effects of the blood of Jesus in your life are difficult to wash away. Once applied, it purifies and what the blood of Jesus purifies will never be the same again. If you are in sin and need cleansing, you must pray through the blood of Jesus and find the cleansing you are looking for.
What can wash away my sins? Nothing but the blood of Jesus.

2. Blood protects
"The blood will be a sign for you in the houses where you are, and when I see the blood I will pass you by. No destructive plague will touch you when it strikes Egypt."-Exodus 12:13

During this time, the Israelites were still in Egyptian captivity but were about to be freed. God performed another act of judgment on Egypt that eventually resulted in Pharaoh letting them go. God instructed the Israelites to put the blood of a lamb on the side of the door and on the doorposts. When the angel of death passed, he would see the houses with the blood and no judgment would come upon that house. For you and me, the blood is our protector. When God sees the blood in your life, he identifies you as one of his and does not judge you because he sees the blood of Jesus on you. As you pray through the blood of Jesus, you are praying for God's protection now and in eternity.

3. Blood defends
"For the accuser of our brothers and sisters, who accused them day and night before our God, has fallen. They triumphed over him by the blood of the Lamb and by the word of their testimony;"-Revelation 12:10-11
One of the descriptions of Satan in the Bible is that of an accuser. Not only does He like to tempt and deceive you with sin, He also likes to blame you if you fall for it. He knows how to play the role of prosecutor well. The problem, however, is when the accuser is confronted with the blood of Jesus. We have already mentioned that the blood is a cleansing agent that washes away all your sins. When the accuser comes to accuse you, there is nothing he can do to support his accusation, for the blood has washed away all the stains of guilt. When you pray through the blood of Jesus and stand under the blood, it defends you from any accusations the enemy might make against you.

4. Blood provides access
"Therefore, brothers and sisters who have confidence to enter the Holy of Holies through the blood of Jesus,through a new and living way opened to us through the veil, that is, through his body"-Hebrews 10:19-20
Praying through the blood of Jesus gives us access to the Holy of Holies. In the Old Testament, the high priest was only allowed to enter the holy of holies or holy of holies once a year. It was a very extensive ritual that he had to go through before entering, finally entering the presence of God. If it somehow went wrong, it would mean death for him. Not spiritual death, but physical death. Outside of this once a year there was no access to the Holy of Holies. All that changed after Jesus. His blood gave us access behind the veil, not just once a year, but permanent access. Now you can go into the Holy of Holies and enjoy the presence of God, all because of the blood of Jesus. This access is eternal because the blood will never lose its power.

Pray the blood of Jesus - how to do it
Praying in or through the blood of Jesus is simply holding fast to what the blood of Jesus bought for you. You simply accept God's promise that the blood would do as He said. If you trust in the power of blood, God will do the rest. You can ask God for the things He promised through the blood of Jesus. Whether it is purification, defense, protection, or access to his presence, everything comes through his blood. These things are God's will and He will do them for you for His glory.
If I could encourage you with one thing in this article, it's to never forget the power of the blood of Jesus. It was nice then, it's nice now. He saved people then, He saves people now. Understand that you will be forgiven for all eternity and in the perfect presence of God, all because of the shed blood of Jesus on Calvary's cross. Let's keep singing about the blood and hopefully find more sinnerssalvationand cleansing by the blood of Jesus. Because this blood will never lose its power.
